"Shagbark Hickory" Original Watercolor Painting
Title: Shagbark Hickory
Year: 2025
Watercolor on Paper
Size: 8.5×11.5 inches, framed to 11×14
I absolutely loved painting this tree. I started by creating texture using plastic wrap on top of drying watercolors. I then spent time painting all of the shadows behind the pieces of bark that are lifting off the tree. Lastly, I added a blurry background to let your eyes focus on the beauty of the tree itself. I didn’t want to distract from the beauty of the bark by adding any of the branches or leaves of the hickory tree. The light yellow mat and the blue/gray frame bring out the oranges of the bark. It’s a beautiful painting that I even impressed myself with.
This original watercolor painting is featured in the book, “Just One Comfrey”, a Counting book by Wisconsin Food Forests. The book is scheduled to be released July, 2025. It features edible plants that grow well in Wisconsin’s climate. Some are edible for human consumption, while others are edible only for critters and birds that call Wisconsin home.
This original watercolor painting was painting using Daniel Smith watercolors on Arches cold-pressed paper. Using professional supplies means your painting will stay brilliant and colorful for years. It also comes signed, with a Certificate of Authenticity. It is matted and framed. (blue/gray frame with a muted yellow mat, glass, with hanging wire for easy hanging).
***Framed pieces will only be available for local pickup. If you need this painting mailed to you, it will come un-framed, but still custom matted. ***
