Let's practice some florals and strong shadows! In this tutorial, you'll learn how to paint some sunflowers in a simple vase. Then, you get the option to try painting strong cast shadows. Painting shadows in watercolors can be challenging, but practice makes for progress! This tutorial will guide you through painting both the cast shadow behind the flowers and vase, as well as the shadows cast on the actual flowers. Don't like the look of the shadows in the example? Leave it out!
Specialty Techniques Practiced:
Painting flowers in two layers (wet on wet first, then wet on dry details)
Using a stippling brush to paint the textured centers of Sunflowers
Painting a strong cast shadow behind your subject and on top of your subject
Specialty Supplies Needed (other than paints, brushes, and paper):
stippling brush (you can cut the end off of a medium-sized round brush to create your own stippling brush at home)
Paper Size and type: Cold-pressed 140 lb., 8x10 inch painting. Brand: Arches
Class level: Beginners to Intermediate for the shadows
Video length: 1 hour, 8 minutes
