"Chinese Chestnut" Original Watercolor Painting
Title: Chinese Chestnut
Year: 2025
Watercolor and gouache on Paper
Size: 8×10 inches, matted to 11×14
To paint the tiny hairs on the feathery flowers of the Chinese Chestnut tree, I decided to use a white gouache on top of my watercolor painting. It was the very last step and although it took a while to paint the tiny hairs, I think it creates a much more believable effect than if I were to just have used watercolors.
This original watercolor painting is featured in the book, “Just One Comfrey”, a Counting book by Wisconsin Food Forests. The book is scheduled to be released July, 2025. It features edible plants that grow well in Wisconsin’s climate. Some are edible for human consumption, while others are edible only for critters and birds that call Wisconsin home.
This original watercolor painting was painting using Daniel Smith watercolors on Arches cold-pressed paper. Using professional supplies means your painting will stay brilliant and colorful for years. It also comes signed, with a Certificate of Authenticity. It is matted, but NOT framed.
