"Black Raspberries" Original watercolor Painting
Title: Black Raspberries
Year: 2024
Watercolor on Paper
Size: 8×10 inches, framed to 11×14
I took the reference photo for this painting while camping at Governor Dodge State Park in Wisconsin. There were tons of black raspberry bushes growing along a hiking trail, so I snapped a picture knowing that I needed to illustrate them for our book. To paint these juicy treats, I first masked the berries and then painting a wet-on-wet background. I added some bokeh sunspots to give the sense that sun rays are peaking through the crowded leaves. After a few more layers on the background, I removed the masking fluid to paint the berries themselves. Multiple layers on each berry and some very detailed line work around the individual beads brings your attention to the fruit itself. This painting will always remind me of my daughter’s first time camping and hiking through the woods with family.
This original watercolor painting is featured in the book, “Just One Comfrey”, a Counting book by Wisconsin Food Forests. The book is scheduled to be released July, 2025.It features edible plants that grow well in Wisconsin’s climate. Some are edible for human consumption, while others are edible only for critters and birds that call Wisconsin home.
This original watercolor painting was painting using Daniel Smith watercolors on Arches cold-pressed paper. Using professional supplies means your painting will stay brilliant and colorful for years. It also comes signed, with a Certificate of Authenticity. It is matted and framed (gray frame with white double mat, glass, with hanging wire for easy hanging).
***Framed pieces will only be available for local pickup. If you need this painting mailed to you, it will come un-framed, but still custom matted. ***
